Google's FREE keyword tool

This is a great free tool to find keywords (from Google):-

Google Search-based Keyword Tool.

Enter your website domain name, and the facility lists keyphrases that people are actually using to find sites similar to your own - ordered by search volume! So let's say you're selling pashminas - like we are at lovepashminas.com - so we enter lovepashminas.com as the domain name into the keyword tool:- lovepashminas.com - what keywords should it be ranking well for?

Immediately we can see a list of related keywords and their relative search volume. You'd expect the generic keywords to be the most searched for - they are - such as "pashmina" which you can see in this report having around 15 times the search volume to the 2nd most searched phrase.

However, the really interesting thing about this tool lies in the longer tail - the less popular keywords. Let me give you an example - let's see which pashmina colour is the most searched for. Just looking on page two of results, we have our answer here. So let's see the top 10:-

1. silver pashmina (440 monthly searches)
2. black pashmina
3. white pashmina
4. pink pashmina
5. gold pashmina
6. paisley pashmina
7. red pashmina
8. purple pashmina
9. green pashmina
10. ivory pashmina (155 monthly searches)

These are obviously more specific searches than "pashmina" and "pashmina shawls", but more specific searches convert more sales, so a pashmina seller wants to know which colours are the most popular in order to convert more sales.

Use this tool yourself for your own site(s) and see what keywords you should target.
