Google Suggest

Google Suggest
Google have rolled out the new Suggest feature on Google.com (see screenshot).

This COULD impact search in the following ways:-
  • Less misspelled searches
  • Less long tail searches as people opt for suggestions rather than type in a longer keyphrase
  • Naturally, more searches being made on suggested search terms, so a funneling of searches going to a lot fewer search terms
The last point is significant. If Suggest takes off and people use it a lot, you will want to rank on the suggested keyphrases that relate to your website.

My feeling is that this new feature will reduce misspelled searches, consolidate traffic on common keyword searches, BUT not impact much on long tail search (more obscure search terms).
